Matthew Mayer Death, Obituary – The Buffalo and Town of Tonawanda communities are grieving the heartbreaking loss of Matthew Mayer, a 20-year-old Canisius High School graduate whose life was tragically cut short in a single-vehicle crash early Monday morning. His sudden passing has left family members, friends, former classmates, teachers, coaches, and all who knew him mourning the loss of a remarkable young man remembered for his kindness, humility, and unwavering character.
According to authorities, Mayer was driving north on Union Road in Amherst at approximately 3 a.m. when his vehicle left the roadway near Wehrle Drive. Police reported that the vehicle struck a utility pole before continuing forward and crashing into a commercial building located at 784 Wehrle Drive. The impact caused the vehicle to roll onto its passenger side inside the structure before both the vehicle and the building caught fire.
Members of the Snyder Fire Department responded quickly to the scene and extinguished the blaze. Despite their efforts, Mayer, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials confirmed that no one inside the building was injured.
